Exciting news... Mountain Heart announces new member Molly Cherryholmes! They are playing the last set on Saturday, Sept 18 at Pickin' in the Pines and they are sure to rock it! From Mountain heart: We’re excited and honored to announce to you that Molly Cherryholmes, five-time Grammy nominee and former member of the award-winning band Cherryholmes, is the newest member of Mountain Heart. Molly’s musical talent has always been undeniable, and we are all thrilled to bring her on board as a full-time member. We’d also like to say a big thank you to our longtime friend and fiddler, Jim VanCleve, who has recently stepped down to pursue new musical opportunities. We cannot wait for our friends and fans to hear the new Mountain Heart lineup, and we encourage you to stay tuned as we unveil national touring news as well as new details for our forthcoming release. For now, please help us welcome Molly to the Mountain Heart family!
We are happy to announce the addition of two more wonderful bands to the Pickin' in the Pines 10th Anniversary lineup! The Mars Hillbillies great musicianship, polished harmonies, extensive repertoire, and unique sound make them one of Flagstaff’s favorite bluegrass bands. In addition to fine-tuned gospel and bluegrass harmonies, they also perform original songs, and favorites written by the likes of Robert Earl Keen, Merle Haggard, Greg Brown and Fred Eaglesmith. Viola & the Brakemen bring a sensational mix of original music written by Brian White and inspired by the Southwest. When you hear their music, think of the old southwest, the birth of the cowboy, the trains, the steam, and the thrown stones skipping ponds that ripple free. Visit our lineup page for more details.
We have three more exciting acts to announce for Pickin' in the Pines 10th Anniversary! Tony Norris & Jesse Anderson will bring their unique mix of ageless old-time tunes and well-crafted originals in a torrent of Americana goodness to the stage for a captivating musical combination. The Knockabouts’ have a perfect blend of time-honored tradition, bawdy good taste, rowdy energies and smooth harmonies wrapped up in the best of authentic Celtic music. Pickin’ in the Pines 2014 band contest winners Cisco & the Racecars have their roots in traditional bluegrass music, but this six-piece band mixes popular, old-time, and acoustic country tunes that unite for an exciting musical fusion. These three Arizona based bands bring an eclectic mix of acoustic music to Pickin’ in the Pines for our 10th Anniversary that you won’t want to miss! Visit our lineup page for more details.
Beppe Gambetta is coming back in 2015 to join the Pickin' in the Pines lineup and to host the Beppe Gambetta Guitar Camp, intensive flatpicking guitar workshops! These three distinctive workshops will explore a fascinating journey in flatpicking techniques viewed from the broad perspective of Italian guitarist Beppe Gambetta. Beppe lives on the road 270 days out of the year, and gets his main musical inspiration from his traveling life. While his style is deeply rooted in American traditional flatpicking, Beppe has also done extensive research into the old musical forms of Europe, which inform the basis for his compositions. Widely acknowledged as one of Europe’s foremost guitarists, Beppe Gambetta is a true master innovator on the acoustic guitar. Both as a solo act and in collaboration with top-flight musicians around the globe, Beppe has a style that’s memorable both for its deeply emotive tone and for its technical brilliance. Beppe approaches his music from a unique stance, as an Italian musician in love with both American roots music as well as the music of his native country. He seamlessly bridges the shores of the two continents, creating a musical fusion where American and Ligurian tradition, emigration songs and folk ballads interact, weaving a deep dialogue beyond rigid classification.
We are excited to announce that Chris Brashear, Peter McLaughlin and Todd Phillips will perform at Pickin' in the Pines 2015! Chris Brashear and Peter McLaughlin have performed and recorded together for over twenty years. Their previous duet recordings, Canyoneers (2003) and So Long Arizona (2008), established them as leading performance artists and creative lyricists with a particular interest in the Southwest. Grammy-award winning bassist and producer Todd Phillips is no stranger to the collaborative and creative process. His entire musical life has been dedicated to musical projects that are on the cutting edge of acoustic music. The Colton House residency has helped to add significantly, both in creative terms and in terms of public awareness, to an already impressive body of work by lyricists who have developed writing skills from traditional roots. This residency can be seen as laying the groundwork for future arts and education programs that benefit directly from the wonderful resources provided by the Museum of Northern Arizona.
We are thrilled to add the Steep Canyon Rangers to the lineup for 2015! The Steep Canyon Rangers started as a group of friends playing music together for fun, but after more than a dozen years together, they are instantly recognized as one of the most successful bluegrass bands touring today. Their recordings and dynamic live performances have earned them many accolades, including Grammy and IBMA Awards, but most important, is the devotion of their fans. The Steep Canyon Rangers are Woody Platt (guitar), Graham Sharp (banjo), Charles Humphrey (bass), Mike Guggino (mandolin), Nicky Sanders (fiddle) and Mike Ashworth (box kit). Visit the Pickin' in the Pines lineup page for more information.
