Camping at Pickin’ in the Pines

One of the magical things about a music festival is the community that forms in the campgrounds. There, you'll find complete strangers getting together and sharing tunes from a standard repertoire, impromtu potluck meals, and all-night jam sessions. There are plenty of opportunities to camp at Pickin’ in the Pines, whether you’re staying in a small tent or a large RV. FFOTM has reserved and will manage two areas for open camping. All camping areas are a moderate, 1/8 to 1/4 mile walk to the Pine Mountain Amphitheater, but there will be a free shuttle service between the campground and the Amphitheater. The campgrounds connect to the Flagstaff Urban Trail system, where you can hike or bike for miles.

Camping Options

You have two options for camping at Pickin’ in the Pines. These two options are managed by Flagstaff Friends of Traditional Music and are available to festival goers for $15 per person for the entire weekend or Saturday night only for $10 per person.  The campground opens at 3:00 pm on Thursday, September 11th and closes at 12:00 pm on Monday, September 15th.

Option 1 - The FFOTM Campground. FFOTM has reserved the large Group Camping area at the Fairgrounds.  Tall pine trees create a rustic “camping in the woods” experience and provide shade during the heat of the day.  Several picnic tables, raised BBQ grills, and campfire rings are available to share with your neighbors.  This camping area is open on a first come, first served basis and is perfect for tent camping or those with small trailers. Porta-potties are provided, but there are no shower faclities. The area along the south fence will be designated as a "quiet area" as it adjoins the Luke AFB camping area.

Option 2 – The Carnival Lot.  This area is reserved for RVs and vehicle camping.  There is ample space for the big rigs here and the solid level asphalt provides an easy and stable setup.  Pickin’ is allowed through the night, and it’s okay to run your generator here.  The Carnival Lot is just across the road from the FFOTM Campground. If you require RV hookups, contact the Coconino County Parks and Recreation Office for information: (928) 774-3464.

After September 11, 2008, all camping passes must be purchased at the gate.  There should be plenty of available camping for you and your family.

Campground Rules

1.  Above all, please be respectful of your fellow campers.  We're all here to have fun. If you're planning on hosting a raucous all-night jam and you're right next to a family that is hoping for peace and quiet, you may want to consider camping in another part of the campground. Drum circles and/or amplified music are NOT allowed in the campground.

2.  Campfires are okay, barring any fire restrictions. If there are fire restrictions, you will be notified upon check-in. Campfire rings are available and you may choose to bring your own above-ground fireplace. Campfires must NOT be left unattended. Make sure yours is out before leaving the campground or retiring for the evening.

3. All pets must be on a leash at all times. Pets other than service animals are not allowed in the amphitheater. If you must bring your pet, make sure it is restrained and is in a comfortable, safe, and secure location if left unattended.

4. Disorderly conduct and/or underage drinking will not be tolerated. Anyone appearing intoxicated or displaying disruptive behavior will be asked to leave.

5. No loud stereos, ATVs, motorcycles or fireworks are permitted on the festival grounds. If you are caught setting off fireworks, you will be evicted from the site and criminal charges may result. Generators may only be used in the Carnival Lot. Please be considerate of those around you when using your generator.
