Contra Dancing at Pickin' in the Pines

We've got a greatly expanded dance program at the Pickin’ in the Pines this year!

The program will kick off with a free Friday afternoon concert on Heritage Square in downtown Flagstaff, and continue Friday and Saturday with evening contra dances. A variety of contra dance, square dance and other dance workshops will also held during the festival.

Great Bear Trio, a contra dance band from Syracuse, NY and the old time string band, The Freight Hoppers from Bryson City, NC, will provide live dance music. Cis Hinkle of Atlanta, GA is the featured dance caller.

Contra Dancing and FFOTM

Contra dancing is a big part of Flagstaff Friends of Traditional Music. We host a FFOTM contra dance on the first Saturday of each month from 7:30-11 pm, at Ashurst Hall on the NAU campus. Contra dancing is a great way to meet new friends and become more familiar with traditional music. Instruction is provided at all of our dances; no experience is necessary and no partner is required. For more information, please visit the FFOTM website.
